John Gielgud
His films of the mid-1960s were in Tony Richardson's '' The Loved One'' (1965), which Croall termed a disaster despite later acclaim, and Orson Welles's Falstaff film, ''Chimes at Midnight'' (1966), which was unsuccessful at the time but has since been recognised as "one of the best, albeit most eccentric, of all Shakespearean movies", according to Morley.{{refn|Gielgud played Henry IV of England; Welles played Sir John Falstaff.|group=n}}

The specialty release garnered positive reviews from critics, with Roger Ebert of the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' calling it "perfectly sweet and civilized [and] a pleasure to watch Smith and Dench together; their acting is so natural it could be breathing".

Roger Ebert
Ebert co-wrote the screenplay for the Russ Meyer film '' Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'' (1970) and sometimes joked about being responsible for the film, which was poorly received on its release yet has become a cult film.
Ebert provided DVD audio commentaries for several films, including ''Citizen Kane'', ''Casablanca'', ''Dark City'', ''Floating Weeds'', ''Crumb'', and ''Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'' (for which Ebert also wrote the screenplay, based on a story that he co-wrote with Russ Meyer).

Everett then returned to his acting roots, appearing in several theatre productions: his Broadway debut in 2009 at the Shubert Theatre received positive critical reviews; he performed in a Noël Coward play, '' Blithe Spirit'', starring alongside Angela Lansbury, Christine Ebersole and Jayne Atkinson, under the direction of Michael Blakemore.

Michael Blakemore
In addition to his work in the subsidised theatre, Blakemore has directed many productions in the West End and on Broadway, including Noël Coward's ''Design for Living'' with Vanessa Redgrave (1973), David Hare's first play, ''Knuckle'' (1974), Peter Shaffer's ''Lettice and Lovage'' with Maggie Smith and Margaret Tyzack (1987), the musical '' City of Angels'' by Larry Gelbart, Cy Coleman and David Zippel (1989) and Arthur Miller's ''The Ride Down Mt. Morgan'' (1991).

She became engaged to Bram Stoker and they married in 1878. Wilde was disappointed but stoic: he wrote to her, remembering "the two sweet years – the sweetest years of all my youth" during which they had been close. He also stated his intention to "return to England, probably for good".

Bram Stoker
The collaboration with Henry Irving was important for Stoker and through him he became involved in London's high society, where he met James Abbott McNeill Whistler and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (to whom he was distantly related).
