Connecting Queen Victoria and Shivaji

Queen Victoria
Derby resigned in 1868, to be replaced by Benjamin Disraeli, who charmed Victoria.

Benjamin Disraeli
Disraeli continued to the last to pillory his enemies in barely disguised caricatures: the character St Barbe in ''Endymion'' is widely seen as a parody of Thackeray, who had offended Disraeli more than thirty years earlier by lampooning him in '' Punch'' as "Codlingsby".{{refn|James D Merritt advanced an alternative theory in 1968, proposing Thomas Carlyle as Disraeli's target.|group= n}} Disraeli left an unfinished novel in which the priggish central character, Falconet, is unmistakably a caricature of Gladstone.

William Makepeace Thackeray
Indian popular Marathi politician Bal Thackeray's father Keshav Sitaram Thackeray was an admirer of William, the India-born British writer; Keshav later changed his surname from Panvelkar to "Thackeray".

His yearly address at Shivaji Park was popular among his followers.

The "black man" was Dadabhai Naoroji, an Indian Parsi.

Such was the respect commanded by him that assertive nationalists could not oppose his candidature and the rift was avoided for the time being. Naoroji was a mentor to Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

Students often would celebrate Hindu and national glory and address political issues; including patronage of ''Swadeshi'' goods. In 1895, Tilak founded the Shri Shivaji Fund Committee for the celebration of "Shiv Jayanti", the birth anniversary of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire.
The project also had the objective of funding the reconstruction of the tomb (Samadhi) of Shivaji at Raigad Fort.
For this second objective, Tilak established the Shri Shivaji Raigad Smarak Mandal along with Senapati Khanderao Dabhade II of Talegaon Dabhade, who became the founder President of the Mandal.{{citation needed|date=May 2020}}
