Connecting Serena Williams and Guy Fawkes

Serena Williams
This also made her one of only three active players to have won 700 or more matches in singles, others being Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Many commentators, players and sports writers regard Williams as the greatest woman tennis player of all time.{{#tag:ref|See|group=lower-alpha}} In 2018, Federer said the player who probably had best case for tennis "Greatest Of All Time", man or woman, was Serena Williams.

The other three in the first six were Henry Dunant, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and novel character Heidi.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Rousseau's ''Discourse on the Arts and Sciences'', emphasizing individualism and repudiating "civilization", was appreciated by, among others, Thomas Paine, William Godwin, Shelley, Tolstoy, and Edward Carpenter. Rousseau's contemporary Voltaire appreciated the section in ''Emile'' titled ''Profession of Faith of the Savoyard Vicar''.

William Godwin
On 16 October 1832, a fire broke out and most of the Palace burned down. Literary critic Marilyn Butler concluded her review of a 1980 biography of Godwin by comparing him favourably to Guy Fawkes: Godwin was more successful in his opposition to the status quo.

She won six matches en route to the final, where 13th-seeded Maria Sharapova defeated her in straight sets.
Then, she defeated 11th seed Julia Görges to set up a fourth-round match against 28th seed Maria Sharapova, whom she had beaten 18 consecutive times since 2004.

She attempted a comeback playing Maid Marian in the period piece '' Robin and Marian'' (1976) with Sean Connery co-starring as Robin Hood, which was moderately successful.

The name nevertheless still had a reputation of sedition and treachery in 1605, when Guy Fawkes and his associates were branded "Robin Hoods" by Robert Cecil.

Following the match controversy at the 2018 US Open final between Williams and Naomi Osaka, the Melbourne newspaper the Herald Sun published a cartoon by Mark Knight depicting Williams having a tantrum and breaking her racket while the umpire asks her opponent to “just let her win.” The cartoon was widely criticized as racist and sexist, including by Williams's husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and author J. K. Rowling.

J. K. Rowling
Critical response to ''Harry Potter'' has been more mixed. Harold Bloom regards Rowling's prose as poor and her plots as conventional, while Jack Zipes argues that the series would not be successful if it were not formulaic. Zipes states that the early novels have the same plot: in each book, Harry escapes the Dursleys to visit Hogwarts, where he confronts Lord Voldemort and then heads back successful.{{Sfn|Zipes|2013|pp=176–177}} Rowling's prose has been described as simple and not innovative; Le Guin, like several other critics, considers it "stylistically ordinary".{{Sfn|Sunderland|Dempster|Thistlethwaite|2016|p=35}} According to the novelist A. S. Byatt, the books reflect a dumbed-down culture dominated by soap operas and reality television. Thus, some critics argue, ''Harry Potter'' does not innovate on established literary forms; nor does it challenge readers' preconceived ideas.{{Sfn|Pharr|2016|p=10}} Conversely, the scholar Philip Nel rejects such critiques as "snobbery" that reacts to the novels' popularity, whereas Mary Pharr argues that ''Harry Potter''{{'s}} conventionalism is the point: by amalgamating literary forms familiar to her readers, Rowling invites them to "ponder their own ideas".{{Sfn|Pharr|2016|p=15}} Other critics who see artistic merit in Rowling's writing include Marina Warner, who views ''Harry Potter'' as part of an "alternative genealogy" of English literature that she traces from Edmund Spenser to Christina Rossetti. Michiko Kakutani praises Rowling's fictional world and the darker tone of the series' later entries.

Also known for her short stories, Byatt has been influenced by Henry James and George Eliot as well as Emily Dickinson, T. S. Eliot, and Robert Browning, in merging realism and naturalism with fantasy.

T. S. Eliot
Allen Tate perceived a shift in Eliot's method, writing, "The mythologies disappear altogether in 'The Hollow Men'." This is a striking claim for a poem as indebted to Dante as anything else in Eliot's early work, to say little of the modern English mythology—the "Old Guy Fawkes" of the Gunpowder Plot—or the colonial and agrarian mythos of Joseph Conrad and James George Frazer, which, at least for reasons of textual history, echo in ''The Waste Land''.

In 2007, Williams appeared in the music video of "I Want You" by the American rapper Common, alongside performers Alicia Keys and Kanye West.

In 2008, he had a supporting role in the film adaptation of the comic book ''Wanted'' alongside Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie.

He acted in a touring company version of '' The Royal Hunt of the Sun,'' and also appeared as an extra in Sidney Lumet's 1965 drama film '' The Pawnbroker'' starring Rod Steiger.

Later that year, Steiger starred as an Irish Republican Army terrorist who plans to blow up the Houses of Parliament in Don Sharp's British thriller '' Hennessy''. John Simon of '' New York Magazine'' wrote: "This fellow Hennessy, as played by Rod Steiger, is about as interesting and likable as a Guy Fawkes dummy."
